Sabah is a multicultural state with many different ethnic groups. The largest ethnic groups are the Murut, Kadazan/Dusun and Bajau. Other groups include Rungus, Malay, Chinese, Indonesians and Philipinos.

The Rungus people reside on both side of Marudu Bay, on the Kudat and Bengkoka peninsulas. Although sharing many of their belief, rituals and festivals with the Kadazandusun, the Rungus have a number of unique legends and practices, as well as their own distinctive costume and architecture.

    Sarawak

    Sarawak is a multicultural state with over 27 different ethnic groups. The largest ethnic groups are the Ibans and the Chinese, followed by the Malays, Bidayuhs, Melanaus and the Orang Ulus.

    The Ibans are also called "Sea Dayak" and the Bidayuhs are also called "Land Dayak". Orang Ulus meanwhile are divided into the following tribes: Kayans, Kelabits and Penans.

    Brunei

    Brunei's culture mainly derived from the Old Malay World, a territory which covered the Malay Archipelago. Brunei’s culture is therefore deeply rooted in its Malay origins, which are reflected in the nation’s language, architecture, ceremonies, and customs governing daily life. Though various foreign civilisations have played a role in forming Brunei’s rich history, the traditions of the Old Malay World have left an indelible mark on the culture of modern Brunei.

  • There are Iban longhouses located in the remote areas near Labi, Mendaram and Teraja. All located in the Kuala Belait district. Not to be missed are the Iban longhouses in the Temburong district.

  •   Malay Technology Museum. Showcases technological tools utilised by the Malays in ancient times.

    Kalimantan is a multicultural state with over 20 different ethnic groups. The largest ethnic group are the Dayaks, followed by the Malays and the Chinese, Madurese and other Indonesian ethnic groups.
